NJPW G1 Climax night seven results, updated standings
The G1 Climax 36 continued on Sunday with B Block action.
Today’s show was the second straight from EBARA WAVE Arena in Tokyo. At the end of the night, three wrestlers share the lead atop the group.
In the first tournament match, OSKAR defeated Aaron Wolf. OSKAR raked Wolf’s eyes to escape an Angle Slam and, hit a kick to the face and a Tombstone Piledriver before locking in the Alptraum for the win.
HENARE became the first wrestler in the tournament to reach eight points, fighting off numerous instances of outside interference from Dick Togo to beat Ren Narita with a HENARE bomb. HENARE improves to 4-1 with the win, while Narita drops to 2-2.
Drilla Moloney defeated Callum Newman to become the second wrestler to move to eight points. Newman’s record dropped to 3-2. He came into the match with his injured shoulder heavily bandaged. Zane Jay attempted to interfere on multiple occasions, but Daiki Nagai fought off the interference. Newman also hit a low blow with the referee out of position near the end of the match. The finish saw Moloney counter Newman’s Kiss the Crown lariat into a Drilla Killa for the win.
Gabe Kidd defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in the main event to join the three-way tie atop B Block with eight points. As you might imagine, the match involved a lot of ZSJ wrapping Kidd up in unique submissions and Kidd making vulgar comments into the camera. The finish saw Kidd get the better of a striking exchange before hitting a knee and two piledrivers for the win.
After the match, Kidd cut a profanity-laced promo where he said he’s going to win the G1 “for my cardio” and will later enter a “real tournament,” the AEW Continental Classic.
Kidd said, “I am gonna win G1 Climax 36… for my cardio. Then I’m gonna go to a real wrestling tournament, AEW Continental Classic.”
