Two more wrestlers advance in NJPW World TV title tournament

NJPW was back at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on Saturday for the second day of its Battle Autumn tour.

Two more matches in the NJPW World Television Championship tournament took place at the show. In an upset, YOSHI-HASHI defeated Jeff Cobb in the main event. EVIL also defeated Aaron Henare to advance to the second round.

The second-round match between EVIL and YOSHI-HASHI will take place on October 27. That show will also feature Zack Sabre Jr. vs. David Finlay in a second-round matchup.

The NJPW World TV title was created to highlight “the bond between NJPW and TV Asahi, and the continued growth of NJPW World.” The tournament will conclude at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

NJPW World TV title matches have a 15-minute time limit. If tournament matches don’t end within that 15-minute limit, there will be a coin toss to determine the winner.

Here’s the updated schedule of first-round matches:

  • Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Alex Zayne (October 14)
  • David Finlay defeated Yoshinobu Kanemaru (October 14)
  • YOSHI-HASHI defeated Jeff Cobb (October 15)
  • EVIL defeated Aaron Henare (October 15)
