Carmelo Hayes wins North American title at NXT In Your House
Carmelo Hayes is now a two-time NXT North American Champion.
Hayes recaptured the North American Championship by defeating Cameron Grimes at NXT In Your House on Saturday night. Hayes won the title after getting help from his friend Trick Williams.
At one point in the North American title match, Grimes took out both Hayes and Williams with a dive to the outside. But Williams then grabbed Grimes’ leg when he tried to get back into the ring. Grimes took out Williams with a Cave-In stomp, but the distraction allowed Hayes to win the title. Hayes sent Grimes face-first into the top turnbuckle and then flew off the top rope with a leg drop to win the match.
Grimes had been North American Champion since winning the title from Hayes in a five-way ladder match at NXT Stand & Deliver this April.
Hayes winning the North American Championship sets up a future title defense against Solo Sikoa. During the build to In Your House, Sikoa said that he’s “got next” against whoever left the show as champion.
