Dakota Kai segment added to WWE NXT

After turning against Raquel Gonzalez last week, Dakota Kai is set to appear on NXT tonight.

WWE has announced that Kai will explain her actions on tonight’s episode of NXT. There was an angle on last week’s show where Kai turned against Gonzalez and laid her out with a kick. That happened at the end of a segment where Gonzalez and Kai addressed the NXT women’s division. Kai said Gonzalez would always be NXT Women’s Champion — as long as Kai had her back.

Kai is expected to challenge for Gonzalez’s NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday, August 22. That match has yet to be officially announced.

WWE has also announced that Ridge Holland will return to action on NXT tonight. Plus, Million Dollar Champion LA Knight & Cameron Grimes vs. The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) has been confirmed for the episode.

Holland returned to NXT last week and aligned with Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan against Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher. It was Holland’s first appearance on NXT television since suffering a left ankle dislocation and fracture and a right knee patellar dislocation and patellar tendon rupture last October.

For the second straight week, NXT is airing on Syfy tonight due to a scheduling conflict with the Olympics. NXT will be back on USA Network next Tuesday.

Here’s the updated lineup for tonight’s show:

  • Love Her or Lose Her match: Johnny Gargano vs. Dexter Lumis (Lumis will be allowed to date Indi Hartwell if he wins)
  • Bobby Fish vs. Roderick Strong
  • NXT Breakout Tournament first-round match: Trey Baxter vs. Joe Gacy
  • Hit Row (Top Dolla & Ashante “Thee” Adonis) vs. Legado del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde)
  • LA Knight & Cameron Grimes vs. The Grizzled Young Veterans
  • Ridge Holland returns to action
  • Dakota Kai will explain her actions
