Lexis King vs. Charlie Dempsey Heritage Cup match announced for WWE NXT

  • Ian Carey

A new match has been announced for tonight’s episode of WWE NXT.

Lexis King defending the NXT Heritage Cup against Charlie Dempsey has been added to the show. The bout was set up in a backstage segment on last week’s show.

Tonight’s match will be the fourth time Dempsey and King have clashed over the Heritage Cup since October. Dempsey retained against King in October, but King defeated Dempsey for the cup on the December 17 episode in Lowell, MA. King successfully defended it against Dempsey at New Year’s Evil but only retained it after he inadvertently headbutted Dempsey in the groin before giving him the Coronation.

On last week’s show, King and Dempsey discussed the controversial finish to their previous match and agreed to face each other again to settle the score.

From WWE.com:

“Lexis King is determined to be a fighting champion, and that’s why he’ll defend the NXT Heritage Cup against former titleholder Charlie Dempsey. Despite Dempsey claiming he was still the Heritage Cup Champion, King controversially defeated his rival to retain the Heritage Cup after inadvertently hitting him below the belt, leading to a Coronation DDT. A backstage conversation between King and Dempsey found the two agreeing that a rematch would settle the score once and for all. The bout will occur live TONIGHT at 8/7 C on the CW Network.”
