Latest update on the Blake Monroe-Thea Hail situation states that Monroe was reportedly ‘injured’ and ‘unhappy’ after the incident.

New details have now emerged on the botched finish to the NXT Women’s North American Championship bout between Blake Monroe and Thea Hail on the December 17 episode of NXT. As per a previous report, the title change was not planned. Monroe had the wind knocked out of her after Hail’s springboard backwards drop, making her unable to kickout in time. According to Fightful Select’s new report, Monroe later claimed that she got injured after that spot.

People involved with Monroe’s creative were specifically not happy with how things ended and quickly added the decision to have a title rematch. Although the report from Fightful Select failed to note the severity of the injury.

The previous report noted that the match referee, Felix Fernandez, received praise backstage for his way of handling the situation. However, sources close to Fightful Select recently noted that there was ‘heat’ on Fernandez for not checking on Monroe when she was hurt. The report further claimed that Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom, and other referees communicated to Fernandez that he had handled things the right way.

Thea Hail and Blake Monroe are now set for a rematch on NXT New Year’s Evil on January 6th, 2026.
