TNA World Championship match to kick off WWE NXT

Gold will be on the line at the start of NXT tonight.

WWE has announced that the TNA World Championship match between Trick Williams and Josh Briggs will open tonight’s broadcast. It’s the third defense for Williams, who has already faced Mike Santana and Elijah during his reign.

This title bout was set up last week when Briggs, Yoshiki Inamura & Elijah defeated Williams, AJ Francis & Wes Lee in a six-man tag. Inamura was the one who pinned Williams in that match, but Inamura suggested that his tag team partner Briggs get the TNA title shot instead. Inamura said his focus is on dethroning NXT Champion Oba Femi.

Williams became TNA World Champion in May with a victory over Joe Hendry. At TNA Slammiversary next month, Hendry will get another shot at the title. That could potentially be a triple threat involving Hendry, Santana, and the winner of tonight’s title match.

Here is everything that’s been announced for NXT tonight:

WWE NXT (Tuesday, June 24) —

  • Evolution eliminator fatal four-way: Jordynne Grace vs. Jaida Parker vs. Lash Legend vs. Izzi Dame
  • Tony D’Angelo vs. Channing Lorenzo for the vacant Heritage Cup Championship
  • TNA World Champion Trick Williams defends against Josh Briggs
