Trick Williams reveals important WWE advice he’s gotten from John Cena

Advice from John Cena has helped Trick Williams become a better professional wrestler.

While speaking with Uncrowned, the NXT Champion opened up about some of the advice Cena has given him. The most important thing Williams has learned from Cena is that — while you’re performing — you need to be able to listen to the crowd and respond in real time to the feedback they’re giving you.

“We’ve had multiple talks, but I would say the most important thing I’ve learned from him is being able to listen and perform at the same time,” Williams said.

“He knows what every sound means, what every sound means that he should be, how he should respond and react to everything. … But just being able to listen and react accordingly to what the people are giving you, I think, is the most [important] thing that I’ve ever heard.”

In addition to getting advice from Cena off-screen, the 30-year-old Williams appeared in a backstage segment with him when Cena was on an episode of NXT last October.

Cena will be back in WWE next year for his retirement tour. He plans to work approximately 36 dates for WWE from January through December 2025.

A two-time NXT Champion, Williams’ current reign with the title began when he defeated Ethan Page on NXT’s CW premiere at the start of this month.
