WWE NXT notes: Tony D’Angelo gets burned, The Culling turn against Shawn Spears

Naraku tricks Tony D'Angelo with a fireball

Notes from Tuesday’s NXT.

The opening of this week’s show saw an irate Tony D’Angelo look for Naraku, who still had yet to sign his contract for the Great American Bash this Sunday. He and Robert Stone eventually found the former EVIL in the Performance Center parking lot. He handed the contract to D’Angelo, only to reveal it was a trap: a fireball shot out at D’Angelo’s face. Naraku laughed as D’Angelo was eventually taken away in an ambulance. Later, D’Angelo was seen being tended to by medical staff at a nearby hospital.

Robert Stone came out in the main event segment to announce the status of the main event for Sunday. Naraku came out but so did Mason Rook and Jackson Drake, who made their claim for the title match. The latter two ended up brawling out of the ring as Naraku told Stone he had no one to face. But Stone corrected him, revealing that D’Angelo would still be wrestling on Sunday. D’Angelo came out and sent Naraku reeling to end the show.

Shawn Spears out of the Culling

Shawn Spears was kicked out of The Culling on Tuesday after a series of incidents that did him no favors with Izzi Dame and Niko Vance. He first inadvertently cost Dame the women’s Speed tournament finals, distracting her long enough to walk into a rollup by Arianna Grace.

The two argued after the match, but tensions continued as Spears and Vance took on Dorain Van Dux and Sean Legacy. Spears took the pinfall after Dux connected with a shooting star press. Vance helped Spears to his feet but quickly took him out with a clothesline. They then took Spears to the outside, where he was powerbombed through the announce table.

In another note, Wade Barrett replaced Booker T on commentary for this week’s show. This was Booker’s second absence in a row, as he was replaced by Corey Graves last week.
