WWE status updates on Oba Femi, Tony D’Angelo

In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on the status of two NXT stars.

Oba Femi dropped the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints at No Mercy last weekend and is not part of the card for next Tuesday’s NXT vs. TNA Showdown special. That’s inevitably led to fans speculating that Femi will be joining the WWE main roster soon.

Meltzer writes that, as far as everyone is concerned, there are still plans for Femi in NXT — but it’s always possible that WWE is trying to swerve people to make his call-up a surprise.

“Regarding the idea Oba Femi lost the NXT title so he could be brought to the main roster, this is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no, in the sense Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward,” Meltzer wrote. “However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided. So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”

There have also been questions about what’s going on with Tony D’Angelo, who hasn’t been seen in NXT since a Sopranos-style cliffhanger was done in July. What’s next for D’Angelo remains to be seen, but Meltzer notes that he is not injured:

“Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off.”
