Alex Windsor challenges Syuri for Wrestle Queendom VIII
It was a busy night for Syuri at NJPW New Beginning USA. Minutes after she defeated Athena to retain one championship, Alex Windsor challenged her for another at Pro Wrestling EVE’s Wrestle Queendom in March.
Syuri is the current IWGP Women’s Champion and New Japan STRONG Women’s Champion. She pinned Athena with a Death Valley Driver to retain the IWGP title in Trenton, New Jersey, on Friday night. Afterwards, she grabbed Athena’s ROH Women’s World Championship belt, teasing a match for that title. Before either could make that match official, however, the lights went out and Windsor appeared on the video screen.
As the video showed Windsor working out and training, her voice was heard talking about her previous loss to Syuri in a challenge for the IWGP Women’s Championship at a previous Pro-Wrestling: EVE event in London last June.
Windsor then turned and spoke to the camera, addressing Syuri by name. “It seems like destiny just keeps bringing us back together, doesn’t it?” she asked. “The only thing that has changed since last time is the prize I am fighting to take off you. On Sunday the Eighth of March, International Women’s Day, at the Indigo O2, I challenge you for your New Japan Strong Women’s Championship. Wrestle Queendom VIII. Syuri-Windsor II.”
This is the eighth match announced so far for Wrestle Queendom VIII, which has already sold out. Other championship matches include Rhio defending the EVE Championship against Session Moth Martina, Kris Statlander defending the EVE International Championship against Charlie (Dakota Kai), and Hollie Barlow & Lana Austin defending the EVE Tag Team Championships against Charli Evans and a mystery partner.
Harley Cameron, Willow Nightingale, AZM, and Jamie Hayter have also been announced for the show.
