For the second time in his career, Mistico has won CMLL’s Men’s International Grand Prix.
Team Mexico defeated Team International in a 20-person torneo cibernetico match on Friday at CMLL’s Viernes Espectacular in Mexico City’s Arena Mexico. Mistico was the last wrestler standing, securing the win by eliminating Mike Bailey. He also eliminated TJP, Taiji Ishimori, and Action Andretti during the bout.
Representing Team Mexico were Mistico, Volador Jr., Titan, Atlantis Jr., Mascara Dorada, Angel de Oro, Neon, Templario, Zandokan Jr., and Difunto. Team International featured Rocky Romero, Donovan Dijak, Robbie X, Michael Oku, The Beast Mortos, Lio Rush, Mike Bailey, TJP, Taiji Ishimori, and Action Andretti.
Having previously won the Grand Prix in 2016, Mistico now joins Rayo de Jalisco Jr. and Ultimo Guerrero as two-time winners. Volador Jr. remains the only wrestler to have won it three times. The tournament originally ran under single-elimination rules from 1994 to 1998 before switching to the torneo cibernetico format in 2002.
After the match, Mistico cut a promo directed at CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion MJF, who refers to the title as the CMLL World Championship.
