Former Braun Strowman returns to the ring for first time since WWE release
Over the weekend, Adam Scherr (the former Braun Strowman) worked his first pro wrestling match since being released by WWE more than a year ago.
Scherr returned to the ring for Great Lakes Championship Wrestling in his home state of Wisconsin, competing in a handicap match alongside the indie promotion’s champion Kal Herro. They prevailed in the two-on-three bout over Drew Hernandez, Tony Evans & Tommy Boy after Scherr set up Herro for the win.
The free show was held outdoors on July 11 in Ashippun, Wisconsin as part of the Ashippun Firefighters Picnic. A “special appearance” by Scherr was advertised in advance, with Herro defending the GLCW Championship against Drew Hernandez.
Scherr, 42, was released by WWE in May 2025, ending his second stint with the company. He’s been focused on non-wrestling television projects since then. Currently airing its second season, the food show “Everything on the Menu with Braun Strowman” has been a hit for USA Network. Scherr still uses his WWE name for the show, which was being developed before his WWE release. WWE is involved with the production of the series.
Scherr is also starting up his own production company for other reality TV projects.
The future of Braun Strowman —
Though his focus is elsewhere, Scherr told the Battleground Podcast this summer that he does miss wrestling and isn’t closing the door on a potential WWE return, though the money would need to be right for Scherr to consider it.
“I miss the ring. Don’t get me wrong, I miss being in the ring,” Scherr said. “I miss being in the locker room with the boys. I miss the pop. I miss the fans. I don’t miss the politics and the bullcrap that comes along with it.”
