There have been quite a lot less pro wrestling title changes on July 2nd than some of the recent days we’ve looked at. According to wrestlingdata.com, there have been 175 major/notable title changes on this day historically.

This includes Edge & Hulk Hogan winning the WWE World Tag Team Titles in 2002, Kenny Omega winning the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title in 2017 and, most importantly (of course) Crash Holly winning the WWF Hardcore Title in 2000.

1970-1999

The earliest July 2nd entry is from 1970, when Bulldog Brower won the NWA North American Heavyweight Title. Bepo and Geeto won the WWWF International Tag Team Titles in 1971. Kengo Kimura won the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title (Internationale Version) in 1980. Masato Yakushiji and Naohiro Hoshikawa won the CMLL Japan Tag Team Titles in 1999.

2000

Three title changes were recorded on July 2nd, 2000. Steve Blackman won the WWF Hardcore Title, the NWA World Heavyweight Title was vacated, and Crash Holly won the WWF Hardcore Title.

2002-2010

Edge and Hulk Hogan won the WWE World Tag Team Titles in 2002. Umaga won the WWE Intercontinental Title in 2007. Alex Koslov and Christina Von Eerie won the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Titles in 2010.

2017

Three titles changed hands on July 2nd, 2017. Alberto El Patrón won the TNA World Heavyweight Title. Kenny Omega won the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title. Sienna won the TNA Knockouts Title.

2020-2023

Brian Cage became the FTW World Heavyweight Title in 2020. In 2022, Bobby Lashley won the WWE United States Title and Liv Morgan won the WWE SmackDown Women’s Title. The most recent entries are from 2023, when Yuma Aoyagi won the AJPW Unified Triple Crown Heavyweight Title and El Lindaman won the AJPW World Junior Heavyweight Title.
