Tom Lawlor provides update on hip replacement surgery

Tom Lawlor is heading in for surgery.

On Friday’s Wrestling Observer Live, the former NJPW Strong Openweight Champion confirmed that he would be getting hip replacement surgery next week for his left side.

“Going under the knife Tuesday morning, 7:30 a.m.,” he said. “Yeah, I’ve heard from quite a few people that have had hip replacements…this is one of them that a lot of people say they’ve had great success with, was a game changer, helped them out. So I hopefully I fall into that boat as well.”

Lawlor, who has been wrestling on the independent scene for a number of years following his UFC run, hasn’t wrestled since May. Last month, he confirmed he’d need the surgery.

“I went to a local medical facility,” he explained. “A local medical professional took a look at me. He took a look at these scans that I’ve had done and he said, ‘You know what, Filthy Tom Lawlor? If you walked in to the nursing home right now, there are 90 year old women who would rightfully have pity upon the shape that your left hip is in. He said the right’s not great either, but the left side’s so bad that there’s just a ton of bone spurs that have pushed the hip out of the socket.”

In addition to his hip, Lawlor said he is also suffering from herniated discs and has lost a lot of feeling in his left leg as a result.
