Red Velvet injured, interim ROH Women’s TV Champion to be crowned

Red Velvet is injured and will not be able to defend her ROH Women’s TV title at Supercard of Honor.

Tony Khan revealed the news on today’s AEW All In media call. He said an announcement regarding the crowning of an interim ROH Women’s TV Champion will be made soon.

Khan also said injuries have caused other lineup changes for Friday’s pay-per-view. The ROH Women’s Pure Championship tournament has yet to start as planned, and an injury to Jamie Hayter led to Queen Aminata being “called up” to AEW, further altering plans for the ROH women’s division.

Velvet commented on the injury shortly after it was revealed, writing “Not the news I wanted to share. I won’t be cleared to compete at Supercard of Honor due to injury. Don’t get it twisted this is just a pause, not the end. To the new Interim ROH Women’s TV Champ congrats in advance. Hold it down, because when I come back? I’m coming for it ALL.”

The nature of Velvet’s injury is currently unknown. Her last match took place in Arena Mexico at Fantasticamania on June 20, where she defeated Kira in a match Dave Meltzer rated a “DUD” in the June 23 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, calling it the worst match he’d seen all year.
