Welcome in, friends as tonight the talented grapplers of Ring of Honor take on the biggest Transformer ever released, Metrople— Oh, wait, hang on. <checks notes> The talented grapplers of Ring of Honor take on the also talented grapplers of Metroplex Wrestling!
Yes, that makes more sense (in a disappointing way).
For those not in the know, Metroplex Wrestling was founded in 2010 by none other than ROH Women’s World Champion, Athena. She runs it out of Texas and some of it’s notable alumni include Tatum Manning, Man Man and Mr. Leggs. Billie Starkz, Shane Taylor and Diamante have all darkened Metroplex’s doors in appearances as well. So let’s see what they’ve got, shall we?
Mixed Eight Person Tag Team Match: Shane Taylor Promotions (Carlie Bravo, Shane Taylor, Shawn Dean & Trish Adora) (w/Anthony Ogogo & Christyan XO) vs Demo Diamond, Kari Jai Wright, LVJ & Reiza Clarke
And kick it off with a bang they did!
The MPX crew looked good headed down to the ring, but Shane Taylor Promotions is a tough group to face, no matter who you are.
Ogogo and XO headed to ringside and the bell rang with Bravo pie-facing Wright. He followed that up with a waistlock taikedown, but Wright managed a wristlock, keeping Bravo from bringing in backup from the corner. Wright caught Bravo with a shoulder tackle and then threw a clothesline in the corner.
Bravo reversed an Irish whip, but couldn’t get ahold of Wright, so he just punched him in the face. Dean tagged in Wright brought Dean over to the corner to bring in LVJ. Dean unloaded some chops on LVJ, but wasn’t able to keep him down.
LVJ strutted his stuff and hit a knee to the sternum. Adora tagged in and Clark joined her. Adora is a menacing figure, but Clark was just as intimidating. Clark landed a punch, but a spinning kick from Adora sent her into the corner and caught a blind tag.
Taylor tagged in and cleared the ring, but Dean landed a BBC in the corner on Wright. Wright got laid up on the ropes and XO gave him five fingers to the face. Taylor tagged back in and chopped Wright half to death, as he does.
Dean tagged back in and put a half crab on Wright who screamed in pain. Wright managed to kick him off and tag in Clark. Adora came in and the speed picked up with Clark clearing the STP corner and hitting running knees in the corner on Adora. She landed a side slam for a two count and then Adora countered into a suplex.
Clark returned the favour as the Infantry pulled Wright and Diamond down off the corner. Adora hit a Lariat Tubman and that was it. She pinned Clark for the victory.
Match Result: Shane Taylor Promotions defeated Demo Diamond, Kari Jai Wright, LVJ & Reiza Clarke
ROH Women’s TV Title Proving Ground Match: Red Velvet (c) vs VertVixen
The two locked up with Vixen getting the wristlock on first. Velvet flipped around and got on of her own on. So, Vixen flipped around, but Velvet stopped her short and put on a scissor lock. Vixen hit a shoulder tackle and elbow. She went for the cover but Velvet kicked out at one.
Velvet dodged a charge from Vixen in the corner and hit a bottom rope springboard for a two count. Vixen came off the ropes with a dropkick and pulled Velvet over with an armdrag into an armbar. Arms.
Velvet got out of it and landed a kick off the ropes. Velvet hit an armdrag of her own and went back to the short arm scissor lock. She transitioned it into a straightjacket hold, but Vixen dropped low and got out of it. Velvet seemed a little dazed, but not so much she couldn’t kick out of a rollup.
Vixen caught Velvet in the eye and sent her off the ropes for a big boot to the head. Velvet collapsed and Vixen scopped her up and put her in a tree of woe for some kicks. She put a point on it with a dropkick and went for a cover that Velvet kicked out of at two.
Vixen ran right into an elbow from Velvet who sent her to the corner. Vixen exploded out with a blut thunder bomb, but obviously didn’t get the pin. The two started trading hands, which is not something you want to do with a person like Velvet.
Velvet hit a bulldog and then took Vixen to Mama’s Kitchen to pick up the victory in the Proving Ground.
Match Result: Red Velvet defeated VertVixen
-Backstage, Christopher Daniels talked to the Martin Brothers of Top Flight. He said that the world has forgotten how good they are and they need to start issuing some challenges. Daniels then challenged Sammy Guevara and Beast Mortos, the current ROH Tag Champions. Dante called them an embarrassment and Darious said that they have been sleeping on Top Flight for too long and it’s time for them to wake up.
Big Bill & Bryan Keith vs Surf And Turf (Braddah Kaimi & Phil Shark)
Before you ask, yes. Phil Shark is a literal man in a shark suit. Or shark in a man suit. I love wrestling.
Shark started off against Keith and Keith didn’t even bother to take his poncho off until after the bell when he threw it on Shark, which is how professionals deal with rabid sharks I think.
Keith ripped Shark’s mask off much to the crowd’s dismay and Kaimi tagged in so they could hit a double team on Keith. Bill tagged in and Shark and Kaimi called for their signature move the “Harpoon” but Bill simply punched them to death.
Keith tagged back in to choke Kaimi and Bill pulled him through the ropes by the hair and laid some clubbing blows onto him. Keith dropped a knee in the ring but Kaimi kicked out at two. The crowd wanted Bill, but Keith said “nah” and hit a dropkick. He wrapped Kaimi up in a headlock until Kaimi managed to get out of it and get a hot tag to Shark.
Shark threw some clotheslines which knocked Keith over, but only mildy irritated Bill. They landed a Harpoon on Bill and then double standing Moonsaults on Keith. Kaimi dove through the ropes and got caught by Bill who choke slammed him on the ring apron (the sharkiest part of the ring!)
Keith headbutted Shark in the ring and then tagged in Bill for stereo big boots. Bill picked up Shark in a bear hug followed by a side slam and that was it. 1-2-3 and Bill and Keith get the win.
Match Result: Big Bill & Bryan Keith defeated Surf And Turf (Braddah Kaimi & Phil Shark)
MPX Women’s Title Match: Abadon (c) vs Ray Lyn
It was great to see Abadon back on ROH TV. Abadon had some great matches in the ROH ring, especially against Athena.
Lyn chest-bumped Abadon, not intimidated by them at all. Abadon let out a scream and sent her into the corner for some high knees. Abadon hit a hard suplex and unlike her previous persona, did a lot of jawing at the crowd.
Lyn grabbed their dreadlocks and threw them at the ground, hopping on top to deliver some strikes. Abadon got to their feet, but Lyn kept coming back with kicks. working the legs. She started dropping elbows on their knees and twisted Abadon’s ankle in repeated slams.
Abadon countered finally, grabbing an ankle lock. Lyn flipped them over and the two traded locks with Lyn getting Abadon into a Boston crab. Lyn raked the eyes and laid a kick into Abadon’s gut for a two count.
Abadon fought back with some strikes, but Lyn went back to the legs, slapping on a native American death lock. Abadon crawled to the ropes to break the hold.
Lyn charged right into an elbow from Abadon. Abadon threw a clothesline and then a spinning slam for a two count that seemed to surprise even her. Abadon went for a Sister Abigail-type move but their knee gave out and Lyn hit a pump kick. Abadon then countered into a flatliner and got the pin to retain the title.
Match Result: Abadon defeated Ray Lyn
