AAA stars answer WWE SmackDown open challenge

Berto and Angel faced competition from AAA on SmackDown.

The current AAA Tag Team Champions faced the surprise team of Mr. Iguana and Psycho Clown on Friday. Although Iguana proved to be popular with fans in Detroit and both luchadores appeared strong at times against the champions, ultimately the popular team was not successful with Berto and Angel picking up the win to keep the titles.

It was announced earlier in the day by Lucha Libre in Chihuahua that both Iguana and Psycho Clown were pulled from their August 2 show, originally listing WWE commitments this weekend as the reason why.

WWE has integrated AAA into their programming since it was announced back in April that they have purchased the promotion. Their first joint show was held in June, with Mr. Iguana being a notable standout that weekend due to strong fan reaction. He is one half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions with La Hiedra.

Berto and Angel are the lone team on SmackDown not to take part in this weekend’s TLC match for the WWE Tag Team titles at SummerSlam. Last week, Santos Escobar issued an open challenge on their behalf for the AAA Tag Team titles for Friday.
