AJ Styles explains strange WWE Raw off-air promo
AJ Styles has now explained a strange off-air promo that he cut back in September.
On the September 8 episode of WWE Raw, there was a commercial break segment where Styles cut a worked-shoot promo claiming that an unnamed “somebody” did not want him in WWE anymore. Styles said it seemed like things were being engineered so he could not win his matches. The promo was publicized by WWE on its social media accounts and uploaded to the WWE YouTube channel.
Styles told the No-Contest Wrestling podcast that the promo was him setting up something for a storyline, but he does not believe the idea will be happening anymore. He clarified that Paul “Triple H” Levesque was not the “somebody” that he was alluding to.
“It was something I was trying to set up that I don’t think is going to happen,” Styles said. “And it’s not necessarily not true, but I’m not talking about Triple H. So, I want to clear that. But, yeah, that’s about all I can say about it.”
Styles, 48, will be retiring from in-ring competition in 2026 at a yet-to-be-determined date. He’s currently one-half of the World Tag Team Champions on WWE Raw with Dragon Lee.
