Andrade addresses whether divorce from Charlotte Flair led to WWE exit
Andrade addressed his divorce from Charlotte Flair and speculation surrounding his departure from WWE during a recent interview.
Flair and Andrade married in May 2022, with their divorce finalized a little over two years later. Speaking on The Ring, Andrade said he was responsible for the marriage ending and emphasized that it had nothing to do with his WWE exit.
“When I returned to WWE, they treated me well. I have nothing bad to say. Triple H always treated me well. Everyone received me well,” Andrade said (translated).
He continued to say that the couple’s problems began when Flair was out injured.
“And then she got injured. After that we started having some problems, and then the divorce came.”
“A lot of people ask whether she had anything to do with me leaving WWE. It had nothing to do with that, nothing at all. Not that she talked to the company or said ‘fire him’ or anything like that.”
“I respect her. She was an incredible woman. She was a great wife. I wish her the best.”
“I admit it, as a person and as a man, I was the one who failed in the relationship. I can’t speak badly about her. She’s an incredible woman and I wish her the best.”
Earlier this month, Andrade said in another interview that original plans following WWE’s purchase of AAA would have seen him compete in a four-way match against El Hijo del Vikingo, Rey Fenix, and Oba Femi on the first Worlds Collide show in Los Angeles this summer. However, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the match Andrade referenced was not something the company was seriously considering.
Meltzer wrote:
“When we asked, we were told that the match Andrade talked about was never considered or talked about. I mean, you can’t necessarily take Andrade at his word, of course, but he was actually specific and perhaps it was broached to him by one person without the key people knowing. But, we can confirm it was never a serious thought.”
