Musician opens up about emotional moment with Becky Lynch from WWE SummerSlam

In an interview with The Metro, musician Dan “Soupy” Campbell opened up about an emotional moment he shared with his friend Becky Lynch backstage at WWE SummerSlam.

Campbell’s band The Wonder Years recorded a song for Lynch that debuted as her new theme music at the PLE. References to Lynch’s husband Seth Rollins, their daughter Roux, and Lynch’s late father — who passed away in 2021 — were worked into the lyrics. Campbell wanted the song to be “really important” to Lynch, and she was especially thankful for the nod to her father.

“We went backstage, and she came up to me crying, and was just like, ‘It just meant so much, because the last time my dad saw me wrestle live was here at SummerSlam.’ That’s what I was looking for. I wanted to make something that was really important to her,” Campbell told The Metro.

The new song replaced Lynch’s longtime “Celtic Invasion” theme. Campbell said the idea for updated entrance music came from Lynch as she moves on from her “The Man” character into a new era.

“She wanted a whole kind of new presentation of her character,” Campbell said. “I think that she was like, ‘It’s time to move into a new era for me, and that means new music.’ I just wanted to make something that she was going to love, more than anything else.”

Campbell noted that Lynch wanted the theme music to be true to The Wonder Years’ sound rather than just sounding like entrance music. The pop-punk band has been active since 2005.

Lynch retained the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Lyra Valkyria at night two of SummerSlam. Her next title defense is set for Raw tonight against Maxxine Dupri. Lynch has also started a new feud with Nikki Bella that could lead to a future title bout.
