Braun Strowman: ‘I like to think I changed what it meant to be a big man’ in wrestling

Braun Strowman says he likes to believe he changed what it means to be a big man in WWE.

Strowman was promoting his new food show “Everything on the Menu” in an interview with TMZ Sports recently when he mentioned the show allows him to be himself more than he was able to in WWE.

Strowman said:

“This is the first time in my life I’ve had a major platform where I get to be Adam Scherr, the man behind the monster. And that’s what’s so special to me because I always joke around if WWE would have ever just let me be me, I would’ve ruled the world.”

“I didn’t have the pencil. So, I did my best I could with what they gave me every week. I like to think I changed what it meant to be a big man in the wrestling business. And now here I am with another opportunity in life to go out here and prove naysayers wrong and break these stereotypes that follow around big people like me.”

“While I’m not this super educated human being when it comes to the food space, I know what tastes good and I know how to describe it in a way that I understand it. So I like to think this is almost a more little blue-collar approach to these food shows.”

“Everything on the Menu with Braun Strowman” debuts this Friday, October 24 on the USA Network.

Strowman was informed that his WWE contract would not be renewed in May of this year, with him officially becoming a free agent at the end of July. Shortly after, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his release was due to a combination of a high salary and injuries.

“He had not been moving well in the ring since coming back from a major hamstring injury and one person there noted to us that he was hurt worse than people realized,” Meltzer wrote. At the time, Strowman had just come out of a feud with Jacob Fatu, with Fatu winning a Last Man Standing match on the April 4, 2025, WWE SmackDown episode.

Strowman was first signed by WWE in 2013, and made it to the main roster as a member of the Wyatt Family in 2015. He was released in June 2021, but hired back in September 2022. He’s a former Universal, Intercontinental, and two-time tag team champion in the company. He was voted Most Improved in the 2017 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards.
