Brie Bella confirms injury suffered at WWE SummerSlam
Just as one Bella returns, the other is heading to the sidelines.
Brie Bella made an Instagram post today confirming that she suffered a broken scapula (shoulder blade) while teaming with her twin sister Nikki & Paige against Fatal Influence in a six-woman tag match at SummerSlam. She’ll be out of action for “a bit” but promised to return once recovered.
“I wanted to thank you all for sending me all the love, warm wishes and prayers,” Brie wrote in a message to fans. “When I was sitting in the hospital, I was reading everything you guys were sending my way, love you all!!! Unfortunately I’ll be out for a bit. I broke my scapula. If there’s one thing I know about my sister and I is that we don’t let broken bones stop us. Not sure how I finished that match, but I do believe between the adrenaline, passion for the business and the love for all the women I work with, it gave me the drive to finish. Now my new journey starts!! Buddy said he’s going to be my assistant, Birdie‘s going to be my nurse and they both told me that daddy is going to be my personal chef, so I am set!! if there is one thing I know about Brie Mode, she always finds a way to come back to her wrestling home. Let the recovery begin.”
The injury appeared to happen when Bella took a cannonball from Jacy Jayne on the outside into the steel steps. When the Bellas turned heel on Paige after losing, Brie was barely able to take part in the angle. Paul “Triple H” Levesque confirmed the injury at his post-night one press conference, and Brie was pulled from a meet and greet she was scheduled for the following day.
A timeline for when Brie will be able to return has not been announced.
Unfortunate timing for the Bellas —
Brie’s injury comes just as Nikki Bella is returning from a broken ankle. SummerSlam was Nikki’s first match back after suffering that injury in March during the road to WrestleMania. Presumably, Nikki and Paige will continue their feud as a one-on-one program while Brie is sidelined.
The Bellas are still looking for their first WWE Women’s Tag Team title reign together. When Nikki suffered her ankle injury, Paige replaced her and won the belts with Brie before later dropping them to Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence. The Bellas signed new two-year contracts with WWE earlier this year and believe it will be their last deal before retirement.
