Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe set for WWE Great Balls of Fire

Following last night’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, WWE has officially announced the main event for Great Balls of Fire.

It will be Samoa Joe challenging Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Joe won a fatal five-way number one contender’s match at Extreme Rules by choking out Finn Balor to earn the title shot.

The match will be Lesnar’s first time defending the title since winning it from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. Braun Strowman was earmarked for the spot at one point, but an elbow injury forced him to undergo minor surgery last month.

Great Balls of Fire (with WWE actually using the Jerry Lee Lewis song in the commercial for the show) will take place on July 9th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The build to the PPV will begin on Raw tonight and more matches will be announced in the coming weeks, but Joe cut his first promo about facing Lesnar on Raw Talk last night:
