Update on Brock Lesnar’s WWE status following SummerSlam
Brock Lesnar is back in WWE.
Lesnar made his return during the closing moments of SummerSlam night two on Sunday, hitting John Cena with an F-5 before the show went off the air.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed Lesnar’s return.
“The short version of this is that four weeks ago, WWE legal cleared him. As far as why, I don’t know,” Meltzer said. “Obviously, everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit.”
“Either they’re confident that things are going to arbitration and Lesnar’s not a factor at that point, or they’re close to a settlement and then, at that point, Lesnar’s not a factor, or somebody there just had a change of mind, and I don’t know which one of those it is.”
Meltzer noted that the reason WWE did not allow media to ask questions at the post-event show following both nights of SummerSlam is that the company didn’t want to answer questions about Lesnar. Alvarez mentioned that Triple H’s involvement with the White House’s presidential fitness program may have factored into that as well.
Alvarez posted to his subscribers on X after the show:
“Brock has been considered part of the active roster for about two months now. They kept him hidden from everyone all day, although there were friends of his there that hadn’t been there since he left, which led to some people figuring it out.”
Lesnar hasn’t wrestled since losing to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023. He was planned for the 2024 Royal Rumble but was removed from the event following his mention in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis. In the suit, it’s alleged McMahon used sexual encounters with Grant as incentive for Lesnar to sign a new contract. He was also removed from the WWE 2K24 video game shortly after.
In July 2024, Triple H addressed the possibility of Lesnar returning to WWE, telling the Daily Mail that the decision was Lesnar’s to make. “If and when (Lesnar) decides that he would like to do something, we’d be open to the conversation.”
