Chad Gable says The Undertaker pulled him out of the Shorty G mindset

Last year, Chad Gable made a major career transition and transformed into El Grande Americano, and it changed his career.

Following his Noche de Los Grandes loss against Ludwig Kaiser’s El Grande Americano, Gable achieved newfound popularity. He went on to defeat Penta at WWE SummerSlam to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Gable recently worked with The Undertaker in AAA in Mexico and praised him, with credit for transforming his career.

Recently speaking on Busted Open Radio, Chad Gable addressed how The Undertaker helped him get out of the comedic Shorty G character mindset and mould him into his current character.

I’ll take some of the onus on myself for that because, like, maybe I let all these years of being Shorty G or being a comedy character, which I dove into like I would with anything else, right? And I thought maybe that’s just me. That’s just who I am in this business.

And it took a while for, it took Undertaker to pull me out of that and say, ‘No, that’s not you. That’s not who you have to be. There’s someone else in there,’ and we found him, man. Thank God. I’m so happy because now I feel more comfortable performing and just existing, living as myself in this business than I ever have,” Gable said.

He further opened up and reflected on the Shorty G character as a career low. “I’m glad you mentioned the amateur wrestling background because I have to credit that to being part of the catalyst that was able to get me through. Just the mindset that you have to adopt as an amateur wrestler if you’re planning on making the Olympic team, because trust me, that’s not all sunshine and rainbows either. There was a lot of ass kicking and stuff that had to take place on my end, and take beatings to be able to reach that point,” he added.

But I will say the Shorty G stuff and that level of low, I don’t know that I’d experienced that ever in amateur wrestling. So to be able to convince myself to overcome that and that there was gonna be a payoff on the other side was probably one of the most difficult things to do. But I’m glad I did it, man, because, like you said, it’s full circle. Had I not done that, we wouldn’t be standing here. So I’m just grateful, man.”

Chad Gable says The Undertaker helped him transform his WWE career

In the same appearance on The Busted Open Radio, Gable also shared how The Undertaker helped him transform his WWE career. “So crazy, yeah. When you say it like that, but I think now that I’ve reflected on it a little bit, it’s like, that is the reason that really endeared me to that audience, right? But I think part of it comes back to what Undertaker was able to pull out of me down there, because I had, like, a career transformation down there,” he said.

Gable further claimed that The Undertaker helped him go through a creative shift and look at the business. The current champion also revealed that The Undertaker and other people helped him change his approach and look at the business in the “right way.”
