CM Punk: Having AJ Lee back in WWE is ‘like a dream come true’

Having AJ Lee back in WWE is like a dream come true for CM Punk.
“I’m having the time of my life,” Punk told Pardon My Take when asked about his wife’s return. “I’m like the uber, nerdiest wife guy. I always like to say I try to spend as much time with my wife as I can, and I spend a lot of time with her. And it never feels like it’s enough. So having her be back in this environment with me at work is like a dream come true.”
Lee, a popular star from the 2010s era of WWE, made her long-awaited return to the company on the September 5 episode of SmackDown. At Wrestlepalooza this Saturday, she will be competing in her first match since retiring in 2015. It will be a battle of married couples with Lee & Punk facing Becky Lynch & Seth Rollins in a mixed tag match.
During the Pardon My Take interview, Punk praised Lee for how hard she works in the gym.
“She’s inspirational, honestly,” Punk said. “Her willpower, a lot of that’s diet. But she’s also super strong in the gym and she’s, like, lifting heavy weights and busting her ass all the time.”
Punk noted that he was originally supposed to be in Austin, Texas this Friday to attend the premiere for his upcoming horror movie “Night Patrol.” But once the idea of Lee’s return became a reality, he had to make some calls and skip out on the premiere.
Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis is hosting Wrestlepalooza on Saturday. It’s the first event in WWE’s new PLE deal with ESPN.
