Cody Rhodes: I would ‘love to throw my name in the hat’ to run WWE after Triple H

When Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s time leading WWE is over, Cody Rhodes would like to be considered as one of the options to replace him.
Rhodes — the current WWE Champion — was a guest on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike on Thursday and fielded a question about potentially taking over for Levesque years down the line. Rhodes said he would be interested but also named CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Bayley, and Roman Reigns as some of the other options who would do well in that kind of position.
“I think there’s starting to become a fight for it, and I didn’t see that at first. I thought, well, obviously I’m the best candidate [laughs]. I don’t know if I’m actually the best candidate,” Rhodes responded.
“I felt like I had some experience, and I’d be interested in something like that. But also, it’s very clear that CM Punk is really great at helping develop young talent. He probably has a knack for it more than anybody. Seth Rollins is a little bit more rough around the edges but probably would be an outstanding boss when it comes down to it.
“I’d love to throw my name in the hat. I don’t know if I’m ready to do it officially yet, but I like the fact that there’s the three of us, plus tons of other people. Bayley, Roman will always have a say. You’ve got an older locker room right now, so eventually those positions, see if you can do good because it’s not always booking. The industry is not easy, and Triple H is doing a great job, so thankfully we have him for quite some time.”
Levesque is WWE’s head of creative with the executive job title of Chief Content Officer.
When Rhodes was with AEW, he was an Executive Vice President of the company in addition to wrestling. That experience left Rhodes just wanting to focus on his in-ring work rather than any kind of management role.
Rhodes has a WWE Championship defense coming up against Drew McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza this Saturday. It’s the first WWE PLE that will be broadcast on ESPN’s new streaming service.
