First two participants advance in The Last Time Is Now tournament on WWE Raw
Two of John Cena’s formal rivals have qualified into the next round of the ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament on WWE Raw.
Tonight on the November 10th episode of Raw in Cena’s hometown of Boston, Massachusets, Rusev defeated Damian Priest to qualify into second round of the ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament. Later, during the final hour of the show, Sheamus defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to advance in the tournament as well.
While The Celtic Warrior and Nakamura engaged in an extremely closesly-contested fight, Rusev took advantage of Priest’s current weakness and injured eye to enter the tournament’s next round. As Sheamus and Rusev both earned their victories tonight, John Cena also defeated Dominik Mysterio to become a Grand Slam Champion.
The ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament will have 16-men across Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and non-WWE stars compete against each other in a tournament format for a chance to face Cena in his retirement match next month.
As of now, here are the announced matches –
- Rusev defeats Damian Priest
- Sheamus defeats Shinsuke Nakamura
- The Miz vs Jey Uso
- LA Knight vs mystery opponent
- Je’Von Evans vs Gunther
- Solo Sikoa vs mystery opponent
Rusev wants John Cena to return following retirement
With just a handful of appearances left for Cena, the 17-time World Champion is now set to retire on the December 13th edition of Saturday’s Night Main Event. A few days ago, during his appearance with Shakiel Mahjouri at SHAK Wrestling, Rusev shared his thoughts on Cena’s retirement.
“I don’t believe it. I’m not holding my breath. I love John [Cena], and this may be his last match of this century or whatnot, but at some point, I want to see him back, whenever that is.”
The 48-year-old is next set to appear on Raw at the Madison Square Garden on November 17th, then at Survivor Series in San Diego later this month.
