On Wednesday night, former WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon was spotted in public for the first time since his retirement.
TMZ published photos and a brief video today of McMahon, an unidentified woman, John Cena, and Cena's wife Shay Shariatzadeh outside of the Waverly Inn restaurant in New York City. They were at the restaurant for McMahon's 77th birthday.
"Interestingly enough ... an unidentified woman was seen walking behind Vince as he prepared to get into his sprinter van. McMahon's wife Linda was absent," TMZ wrote.
"Vince appeared to have no interest in talking ... as he tried hiding his face as he was getting into his vehicle."
McMahon announced his retirement from WWE on July 22. The announcement came after the Wall Street Journal reported that McMahon had agreed to pay more than $12 million in hush money to four women over the past 16 years to "suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity." The four women were all formerly associated with WWE.
Earlier this month, WWE uncovered $5 million more in previously undisclosed payments that McMahon agreed to make in 2007 and 2009. The $5 million in payments were made to Donald Trump's foundation in conjunction with Trump appearing in WWE.
Following his retirement, McMahon remains WWE's majority shareholder.
