Grayson Waller Effect with Cody Rhodes set for WWE SmackDown

Grayson Waller is set to welcome Cody Rhodes onto his Grayson Waller Effect talk show tonight.

After it was set up by a social media back-and-forth, WWE has confirmed that tonight’s SmackDown will feature a Grayson Waller Effect segment with Rhodes as the guest. The show is taking place from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Waller sent out a tweet yesterday claiming that Rhodes has always been the bad guy in his story. In response, Rhodes challenged Waller to have a chat with him on SmackDown. Waller then invited Rhodes to appear on the Grayson Waller Effect.

“Let’s have a chat tomorrow, but let’s do it on the most honest and important talk show in the history of the WWE: The Grayson Waller Effect,” Waller said. “You can be the first ever three-time guest. You’re welcome for the rub, kid. So let’s all find out together who Cody Rhodes really is.”

Rhodes is defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at WWE Bash in Berlin on Saturday, August 31. There was a moment on SmackDown last week where Rhodes saved Owens from a steel chair attack by Waller and Austin Theory. Dissension was briefly teased when Owens grabbed the Undisputed WWE title belt as Rhodes was trying to pick it up. But after taking a look at the title, Owens gave it to Rhodes and showed him respect.

Here’s the updated SmackDown lineup:

WWE SmackDown (Friday, August 23) —

  • WWE Tag Team Champions The Bloodline (Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu) defend against The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)
  • WWE United States Champion LA Knight defends against Santos Escobar
  • Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill & Naomi vs. Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn & Blair Davenport
  • The Grayson Waller Effect with Cody Rhodes
