World Cup legend sends Gunther message ahead of WWE Clash in Italy

Gunther is set to challenge for the WWE Championship this weekend at WWE Clash in Italy. The former World Champion will be taking on Cody Rhodes with the belt on the line in his return to Europe.

Speaking to Netflix Italia, Gunther was asked who his favorite Italian football (soccer) player was. Gunther revealed that Roberto Baggio was his main man, citing the 1994 World Cup as the first he remember watching as a football fan.

Baggio was a major part of the Italian squad during that summer in the United States, although unfortunately, he is only really remembered by most for his ponytail and missing the deciding penalty in the final against Brazil. Baggio scored 5 goals in the run-up to that final for Gli Azzurri and was easily their man of the tournament, also winning the Silver Ball for the 2nd most goals scored in the competition that year.

The Netflix Italia crew would then reveal that Baggio himself had sent through a message for the Austrian star, saying:

“Hi Gunther, it’s Roby. I saw the pictures of you wearing my jersey during training. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I hope all of this brings you good luck for Clash In Italy, and of course for your life in general. Big hug, see you soon, ciao!”
