Jacob Fatu injury angle takes place on WWE SmackDown

WWE addressed the injury reportedly suffered by Jacob Fatu with an angle on Friday’s SmackDown.
The advertised Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu number one contender’s match for SmackDown never took place, with Fatu taken out of the match with a mystery backstage attack.
As Fatu’s entrance played, cameras cut to backstage where Fatu was pinned under a steel truss, laying in a pool of blood with what looked to be teeth on the floor.
McIntyre called for an opponent and was answered by Cody Rhodes who put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line in an impromptu match.
Wrestling in his suit, Rhodes and McIntyre brawled around ringside before Rhodes was disqualified for hitting McIntyre with the title belt. McIntyre won the match, and Rhodes kept the title.
Fatu is dealing with an unspecified injury suffered away from the ring according to reports, and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of 2025.
