John Cena confirms final WWE SmackDown appearance, match potentially set

Tonight will officially be the last time John Cena ever appears on WWE SmackDown as an active wrestler.
SmackDown emanates live from Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois tonight. It’s being promoted as Cena’s final appearance in Chicago, and Cena has now confirmed that it will also be his last SmackDown before retirement. Including tonight, he has eight dates remaining on his retirement tour. All of the other shows are Raw episodes, PLEs, or Saturday Night’s Main Event.
“My @WWE debut was on #Smackdown at @AllstateArena. Few, if any, places rival the feeling in that building with a sold-out Chicago crowd,” Cena tweeted today. “We get to do it one last time for my final Smackdown appearance. Tonight is one you are NOT going to want to miss. Let’s go CHI-TOWN!”
We could potentially see Cena competing in the ring on SmackDown one last time, with Bodyslam.net reporting that WWE is planning a Cena vs. Sami Zayn match for tonight’s episode. Last week, Zayn defeated Solo Sikoa to become the new United States Champion.
WWE has announced that Zayn will be appearing on the show — and Zayn tweeted that he is looking to start his title reign off with a bang.
After tonight, Cena’s next WWE appearance will be on the September 15 episode of Raw. He’s then expected to face Brock Lesnar in the main event of WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
