John Cena lists Randy Orton, Edge, CM Punk, more as his ‘wrestling soulmates’

While speaking with the Boston Herald, John Cena listed some of the opponents he views as “wrestling soulmates.”
“I have a few wrestling soulmates,” Cena told his hometown newspaper. “Those are Randy Orton, Edge, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles. But gosh, I can’t take any shine away from Cody Rhodes – add him, too.”
Cena has gotten to face some of those opponents on his retirement tour. He’s picked up singles wins over Orton and Punk while splitting a pair of matches against Rhodes. In what could potentially end up being the last truly classic match of his career, Cena dropped the WWE Championship to Rhodes in the main event of SummerSlam night two on August 3.
A final match between Cena and Edge will not be happening before Cena’s retirement with Edge currently in AEW wrestling under his real name Adam Copeland.
The 48-year-old Cena is retiring from the ring this December with his final match expected to be held in Boston on a yet-to-be-announced episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event. A Cena vs. Logan Paul matchup is scheduled for later this month at Clash in Paris, then Cena will likely turn his attention to Brock Lesnar, who returned to WWE storylines by attacking Cena at the end of SummerSlam.
On the subject of who his final opponent will be, Cena was adamant that he does not choose who he is going to face in any of his matches.
“I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve never once chosen my opponent,” Cena said. “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that life will give you opportunities every single day, and you have to do the best you can every single day with what life gives you. So whoever challenges me for that last match, I’m going to give it my best shot.”
