Katana Chance advances in WWE Speed women’s tournament

With a victory over Alba Fyre, Katana Chance is one step closer to challenging for the WWE Speed Women’s Championship.

The show’s contender tournament continued on Wednesday with Chance and Fyre meeting in a first-round match. As she was locked in a Koji Clutch, Chance managed to turn the move into a pin attempt. Fyre kicked out, but Chance then swept Fyre’s legs and drove her face into the mat. Chance got the pinfall with 35 seconds remaining of the three-minute time limit.

It will be Chance vs. either Michin or Ivy Nile in the second round. Michin and Nile are facing off next Wednesday in the only remaining first-round matchup of the tournament. Zelina Vega and Natalya have already advanced and will be facing each other in the next round.

Candice LeRae, who became the inaugural WWE Speed Women’s Champion this October, will be making her first title defense against the tournament winner.

Chance also was an entrant in the WWE Women’s Intercontinental title tournament, losing a first-round match on Raw this Monday. She is part of the women’s tag team division with Kayden Carter.
