Kofi Kingston voices support for WWE’s ‘really, really cool’ expansion efforts

New Day member Kofi Kingston is a big fan of the recent attempts WWE has made to expand its footprint.

While speaking with the Battleground Podcast, Kingston voiced support for some of the steps WWE has taken in recent years like adding in-ring sponsorships and holding more PLEs overseas. He believes these are things the company should have been doing a long time ago.

“We are in such a special time right now. And I was just talking about this in another interview, how, you know, WWE has always been about expanding, right? And branching out into different areas. But I feel like in the past year and a half, two years, we have really just kind of sunk our teeth into anything and everything that we possibly can,” Kingston said. “Bro, even like having advertisements in the ring — we should have been doing that, like a long time ago. The Slim Jim tables, the Prime station, you know what I mean. There’s just so many different ways of interacting, and we have just sunk our teeth into all of them. And I think it’s really, really cool.

“Not to mention all the international shows that we’ve had this year. We’ve had so many Premium Live Events overseas, Clash in Paris, Crown Jewel coming up in Australia. It’s just wild to me, man — like how we can keep on pushing the boundaries. And I love it, man. It’s really cool. And especially like worldwide, we have such a rabid fan base throughout the entire world. And they also deserve to have shows brought to them. They deserve to see shows live. And we are doing our best to get all over the world and get in front of the people who are some of our biggest fans.”

Kingston also likes how WWE has started to collaborate with places like TNA Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA. Following WWE’s acquisition of AAA earlier this year, the two promotions will present a Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas tonight (September 12). The card includes a AAA Tag Team title match with Kingston and his New Day partner Xavier Woods challenging Psycho Clown & Pagano.

“Like you were saying, the collaborations with different companies. With AAA, like, who would have ever thought? Getting to wrestle for the AAA Tag Team titles is going to be amazing at Worlds Collide,” Kingston said. “I’m still kind of in like awe that it’s actually even happening. We have a chance to bring some more tag team gold to the New Day side.”

Worlds Collide will stream live on YouTube in both English and Spanish starting at 10 p.m. Eastern. The card is headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship.
