Konnan said to have undergone double leg amputation, WWE paying all medical bills
During a trying time health-wise, lucha libre legend Konnan thankfully has not been financially impacted by his substantial medical bills.
It was first reported in March that the 62-year-old Konnan had been hospitalized and undergone a leg amputation. Since then, it appears that Konnan needed to have his other leg amputated as well. Vince Russo shared on The Coach & Bro Show that he recently found out the amputation news and called Konnan to check on him.
“Konnan has gone through a double leg amputation,” Russo said this week. “I knew he had the one leg amputated and the second one was in question. That was the last time I talked to him, probably about two months ago. They had to remove the second one. So I called Konnan yesterday. I didn’t talk to him long, man. Because he’s very weak. He’s going through grueling rehabilitation. You know, learning how to — I can’t even imagine that. You can’t imagine that. So he really, really sounded exhausted.”
Russo told Konnan that everyone is praying for him and loves him. In their conversation, Konnan shared that WWE has paid for all of his medical expenses
“Konnan said to me that the WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills,” Russo said. “And that’s got to be pointed out and that’s got to be said.”
With Konnan going through months of rehab, Russo estimated that his bills could have been well over $1 million.
Konnan’s WWE/AAA role —
Konnan is grateful that WWE is covering these expenses despite him only having worked for the company for a short amount of time. He very briefly competed for WWE during his wrestling career but is now with the promotion following WWE’s acquisition of AAA. He works behind the scenes in AAA creative and has done commentary. Before the WWE acquisition, Konnan was AAA’s booker.
