LA Knight expected to return on WWE SmackDown

After having to miss last week’s show due to testing positive for COVID-19, LA Knight is expected to be back on SmackDown tonight.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Knight is believed to be returning on tonight’s SmackDown. PWInsider reported on Thursday that Knight was expected to return on the show.

Knight was supposed to be revealed as John Cena’s partner for Fastlane on SmackDown last Friday. There was an angle on the episode where Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso laid out Cena and AJ Styles. As part of the angle, Styles was stretchered out and taken away in an ambulance.

WWE is currently advertising that Cena will face Sikoa & Jimmy Uso in a handicap match at Fastlane on Saturday, October 7. We’ll see if Knight ends up being revealed as Cena’s partner tonight.

Meltzer wrote:

Cena & LA Knight vs. Sikoa & Jimmy Uso was scheduled as the main event [of Fastlane]. Knight missed the 9/22 Smackdown due to testing positive for COVID, causing changes in the show. He is believed to be returning on Smackdown on 9/29 and one would expect they go to the original plan. Knight, who is very hot right [now] when it comes to all facets of business and reactions, appears to be groomed for a Roman Reigns title shot in the not too distant future. Reigns has no obvious contender at this point and will be defending on the 11/4 show in Saudi Arabia.

Cena was the special guest referee for Knight’s victory against The Miz at Payback. There was a moment after the match where Cena endorsed Knight.
