The Miz wins Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw 25

While much of the focus was on names from the past appearing, the Intercontinental Championship changed hands on Raw’s 25th anniversary show.

The Miz defeated Roman Reigns on the episode to win the title. Miz pinned Reigns after hitting the Skull Crushing Finale, which came after he sent Reigns face-first into an exposed turnbuckle. The story of the match was Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas interfering, with Reigns kicking out the first time Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale. Axel and Dallas were sent to the back by the referee, but Miz undid the turnbuckle when Reigns was focused on them.

This is Miz’s eighth Intercontinental title reign. Chris Jericho, who has held the title nine times, is the only person with more.

Reigns losing the championship comes less than a week before Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Reigns challenging Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship has long been planned to be the main event of this year’s WrestleMania.
