Number one contender’s match for WWE title added to SummerSlam
A number one contender’s match is now set for SummerSlam.
Sami Zayn and Finn Balor will meet next weekend in Minneapolis to determine the number one contender for the WWE title, which will be decided when CM Punk defends against Cody Rhodes that weekend. The match was set up on Friday’s show when Adam Pearce told Sami Zayn he would have to earn a title match.
Balor, Damian Priest, and Royce Keys met in the main event to determine Zayn’s opponent for SummerSlam. Solo Sikoa came out to aid Keys, but The Usos then arrived as they brawled. LA Knight followed, seemingly to even the odds. Keys had the match won with the ultimate spinebuster but Jacob Fatu pulled him out of the ring and attacked him. The chaos allowed Balor to get the upper hand against Priest and pick up the win following the coup de grace.
Zayn held the WWE title for only nine days before he lost it to Punk on an episode of Raw in Chicago. He and Gunther teamed at Saturday Night’s Main Event but ended up losing to Rhodes & Punk, preventing them from being added to the SummerSlam match.
