Number one contender’s match set for Raw next week

There will be a match to determine Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam opponent on next week’s episode of Raw.

It was announced tonight that Roman Reigns would face Samoa Joe in a number one contender’s match next Monday, with the winner getting a Universal Championship shot against Lesnar at SummerSlam. That pay-per-view will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 20th.

Reigns first interrupted Lesnar on Raw and reiterated that he wanted a title shot. Paul Heyman seemed ready to accept the challenge, but Lesnar spoke up and said that Reigns didn’t deserve it. Joe then came out and told Lesnar that he didn’t beat him at Great Balls of Fire, he escaped him. Heyman tried to deny him a rematch, but Joe and Lesnar went face-to-face as Kurt Angle announced Reigns vs. Joe for next week.

Where Braun Strowman fits into all of this should become clear relatively quickly given that he beat Reigns at Great Balls of Fire. The storyline on Raw was that Angle didn’t have an update on Strowman’s condition.

The angle with the mysterious text messages that Angle and Corey Graves have been receiving will be advanced next week as well, with Angle saying that he’s going to “go public” with some information. He closed tonight’s Raw by telling someone on the phone to come to next week’s show and that he loves them.
