Pat McAfee has inked a multi-year contract extension with WWE.
WWE announced the contract extension on Thursday, noting that the new deal "will see McAfee entertaining the WWE Universe for years to come." The exact length of the extension wasn't disclosed.
The 35-year-old McAfee has called SmackDown alongside Michael Cole since joining the WWE commentary team in April 2021.
In addition to doing commentary, McAfee has also wrestled for WWE multiple times. He competed for NXT twice in 2020 before making his main roster in-ring debut at WrestleMania 38 this April. McAfee defeated Theory at WrestleMania before then losing an impromptu match against Vince McMahon. The match set up "Stone Cold" Steve Austin appearing and dishing out stunners to Theory, McMahon, and McAfee.
McAfee will step back into the ring when he faces Happy Corbin at SummerSlam on Saturday, July 30. The pay-per-view is being held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
There was an angle after Money in the Bank went off the air last Saturday where Corbin attacked McAfee and accepted his challenge for a match at SummerSlam.
McAfee was formerly an All-Pro punter for the Indianapolis Colts. After retiring from the NFL in 2017, he became a popular sports media personality and radio show host.
