The AAA Lucha Libre World Cup is reportedly returning.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, AAA will hold the fifth edition of the event on Saturday, May 30 at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. The report refers to the show as a PLE rather than a television taping.

This Saturday’s Rey de Reyes event will air its first hour live, with the following two hours taped for future episodes of AAA on Fox. It is not clear if the Lucha Libre World Cup will follow a similar format or one closer to Worlds Collide events, which air entirely live.

WrestleVotes also reported that the status of AAA TV tapings in the United States is currently in flux. At one point, a taping had reportedly been internally listed for the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Previous reports stated that WWE had been looking at holding TV tapings in the United States on April 11. However, a AAA TV taping in Mexico City has been listed on WWE’s website for that date for some time.

The Lucha Libre World Cup typically features three-person teams competing in a single-elimination tournament. The most recent event was held in 2023. Team Mexico of Black Taurus, Penta, and Laredo Kid won the men’s tournament, while Team USA with Deonna Purrazzo, Kamille, and Jordynne Grace won the women’s competition.
