Report: John Cena title match planned for WWE Raw

According to a new report, a major match is planned for John Cena’s final WWE Raw from his hometown of Boston tonight.

Bodyslam.net reports that the plan is for Cena to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship on the show, a match that at one point had been planned for Survivor Series later this month in Dominik’s hometown of San Diego. Cena is scheduled to open tonight’s Raw.

Our own Bryan Alvarez wrote to his subscribers on X that it is also believed Cena will wrestle on next week’s Raw from Madison Square Garden as well.

Last week on Raw, Dominik was confronted by his father Rey Mysterio, possibly setting up a match between the two at Survivor Series. In last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed what the segment could mean for the November 29 show at Petco Park.

“From television, it does appear that Dominik Mysterio’s IC title defense would be against the just-cleared Rey Mysterio. The original plan was John Cena, and at the time, Cena was to win it,” Meltzer wrote.

“So the question is where Cena fits in, as he has four dates left booked and that was one of the four. He could go into War Games, but he’ll be on Raw the next two weeks to build up whatever he’s doing for his last-ever PPV show and second to last ever match.”

Cena has never won the Intercontinental Championship. He had been planned to win it at Survivor Series, with the possibility that the title would then be on the line in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event next month.
