WWE bringing back all-women’s Evolution PLE this summer

Nearly seven years after the show first took place, WWE is reportedly bringing back its all-women’s Evolution PLE.

WrestleVotes confirmed today that WWE is planning for Evolution to return this summer. Cory Hays of PWNexus first reported on the news earlier this month, saying that the PLE was tentatively planned for Saturday, July 5 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Dave Meltzer also confirmed that WWE had that venue booked with Evolution being the tentative plan.

“After speaking with sources, we can confirm WWE is set to bring back the highly anticipated ‘Evolution’ PLE this summer,” WrestleVotes wrote. “The return of the all-women’s event is expected to be officially announced before WrestleMania.”

The first WWE Evolution was held in Long Island, New York in October 2018. Though it was well-received by fans, the pay-per-view did not become an annual event. Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair were among the matches that took place, with the card also featuring returning legends from past eras of the women’s division.

When Evolution 2018 happened, women were not allowed to wrestle at WWE’s shows in Saudi Arabia, so it was speculated that — in part — the PPV was a response to the criticism WWE was receiving. Saudi Arabia then hosted its first WWE women’s match in 2019.

Members of the WWE roster have frequently called for the return of Evolution in the years since the first event.
