Report: WWE decision-makers not ‘exactly enthusiastic’ about Knicks-heavy SNME
A new report suggests that some in WWE weren’t thrilled with the amount of New York Knicks integration at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select on Thursday, WWE’s “day-to-day decision makers” were said to be not “exactly enthusiastic” about how much Knicks-related content appeared on the show.
The report noted that those spoken to understood the significance of the Knicks winning their first NBA championship in 53 years, but it was felt internally that the level of Knicks-related content went further than many would have wanted. The report also noted that some in WWE are not sports fans.
Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns became involved in Danhausen’s no-disqualification match against JD McDonagh. Towns emerged from Danhausen’s cloning machine before chokeslamming McDonagh and putting Dominik Mysterio through a table.
Jalen Brunson was also involved in the show’s closing angle with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton. Brunson stepped into Rollins’ path as he attempted to deliver a Curb Stomp to Reigns. The show ended with Brunson and Reigns celebrating in the ring alongside the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy.
