Rey Mysterio to face Nakamura in WWE World Cup qualifier

WWE has announced Rey Mysterio’s opponent for his return match.

Mysterio vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in a World Cup qualifying match is set for next Tuesday’s SmackDown. The show is SmackDown’s 1,000th episode and will also feature appearances by Evolution (Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair) and The Undertaker.

This will be Mysterio’s first match since finishing up his independent wrestling dates at the beginning of September and officially signing a two-year deal to return to WWE. The contract includes an option for Mysterio to give notice at the 18-month mark.

The WWE World Cup is taking place at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2. It’s being promoted as a tournament to determine “the best in the world.” There will be eight entrants, with four coming from Raw and four coming from SmackDown. John Cena, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, and Orton are the first four wrestlers who have been confirmed for the tournament.
