Ric Flair says WWE is trying to ‘destroy’ his legacy

Ric Flair

Ric Flair is currently at odds with WWE over a merchandising deal that he’s been removed from.

The 77-year-old Flair sent out a tweet today saying that he’s no longer allowed to have merchandise with Roots of Fight, a company that offers clothing based on legendary athletes across sports. Flair, who is under contract with AEW, stated that it was WWE’s call for him to be removed from Roots of Fight. Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, CM Punk, Randy Savage, Rey Mysterio, Andre the Giant, and Iron Sheik also have items on the Roots of Fight website.

In the tweet, Flair said he’s grateful to still be able to make money through memorabilia company Fiterman Sports, the Offset & Metro Boomin song “Ric Flair Drip,” and his AEW deal.

“I Woke Up This Morning To Find Out That I’m No Longer Allowed To Be With @rootsoffight Per @WWE,” Flair wrote. “Let Me Think- I’m The Only Wrestler To Ever Be On 30 For 30 & Ranked In The Top 25 Of All Time, An Emmy Nominated Documentary-Courtesy Of The WWE, Which I Should Have Won But l Lost To A Team Not An Individual. 21 World Championships, But I Always Played By Your Rules And Kept It At 16. Paid Vince McMahon Back 800k When He Said He Would Forgive It. I Honored It.

“Fortunately, I Still Make 1 Million Dollars From The GREAT Ryan Fiterman @FitermanSports. 500k From Ric Flair Drip. And Thank God For @TonyKhan. What More Of My Legacy Do You Want To Destroy WWE? You All Grew Up Loving Me And I Set The Bar. Now You Are Trying To Kill Me And Diminish My Legacy. Thank You, But It Ain’t Happening. Nice Try. LFG!”

Flair then made a follow-up post saying that he’ll be interviewed by Yahoo Sports on Monday and will further address the situation.

Despite being under contract with AEW, Flair only makes very limited appearances for the promotion. He initially joined AEW to be part of Sting’s retirement run and for a sponsorship deal with his Wooooo! Energy drink.

Flair’s daughter Charlotte is with WWE and will be challenging for the Women’s Tag Team titles at night one of WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 18. The four-way match has Nia Jax & Lash Legend defending against Charlotte & Alexa Bliss, The Bella Twins, and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria.
