Sami Zayn is matching donations to his Sami for Syria charity in honor of his birthday.

Sunday is the now-former WWE Champion’s 42nd birthday, and he is hoping to raise $40,000 to help deliver healthcare and medicine to displaced Syrian residents and those living in rural areas without access to healthcare.

Zayn said in a video released on Sunday that he will match every dollar donated up to $20,000 in an effort to reach the fundraising goal.

He also wove his current WWE storyline into the fundraising request, saying he does not mind if people donate out of pity after his WWE Championship reign ended after just nine days.

Sami said:

“If you wanna give and donate generously, please do. Whether it’s because you wanna do something nice for my birthday, which I appreciate, or because maybe you feel a little bad that after all these years, and I finally won the WWE Championship, I lost it after only nine days. That’s fine too. Whether it’s out of, you know, wanting to do something nice or pity, that’s fine. Just give generously. I will match everything that you donate.”

Sami Zayn’s Sami for Syria mobile clinics

Sami also says in the video:

“For years now, we have operated these mobile clinics that operate on the ground in Syria to deliver primary healthcare to displaced Syrian residents or Syrian residents living in rural areas that otherwise have no access to healthcare. These mobile clinics come directly out to them and deliver, in some cases, life-saving medical care to them.

So today is my birthday, trying to raise as much money as possible, trying to raise actually about $40,000 to fund these two clinics from now to the end of the year.

So for today, I am matching every dollar that you donate up to $20,000.”

Sami captioned the post with:

“Hello, it’s my birthday! My birthday wish this year is to raise as much money as possible to keep our two existing #SamiForSyria Mobile Clinics operating for the rest of the year.

If you’d like to do something nice for my birthday or just feel bad for me after being robbed of the WWE Championship, donate here today: http://SamiForSyria.com.

I am matching every dollar donated today up to 20k. Thanks to all the RIDE OR DIE fans for your support and generosity!”
